San Francisco's Beloved Dickens Fair Returns

It's hard to believe the holiday season is upon us once more. At this time of the year, Hartford Properties likes to give a shout out to one of San Francisco's beloved traditions, The Great Dickens Christmas Fair. The theme of course derived from Charles Dickens, the author A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations to name a few. Established in 1970, this perennial event brings together our Bay Area community and a cast and vendors who work diligently to bring a Victorian Christmas card to life. Located in the Exhibition Halls of the Cow Palace at 2600 Geneva Avenue in San Francisco, you don't want to miss partaking of this holiday feast.

The Fair is family friendly with many dedicated activities for children including  a visit with Father Christmas. For those immersed in costuming and historical events, the Fair provides the opportunity to go all out and fa la la la la to their heart's content. For the grown-ups there are pubs and theatrical productions slightly bawdy in nature. If you need to complete your holiday shopping, the vendors at the Fair offer unique, one-of-a-kind products you won't be able to find anywhere else.

For those who are into traditional dancing, the Fezziwig ballroom provides a venue for non-stop music and cheer. If you don't dance, sitting and watching the dancers while you enjoy a hot apple cider or a mulled wine is a treat in itself. Which brings us to the food... Fish 'n Chips, meat pies, traditional afternoon tea at Cuthbert's salon, bangers and mash and other vendors throughout the fair insure you will not go hungry. You won't have to ask anyone,  "Please sir, may I have some more?" because you will be well fed as you make your way through Victorian London.

This year the Fair runs weekends from November 23rd to December 22nd, including the day after Thanksgiving. Hours are 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, admission for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd weekends is $25.00 for adults and $12.00 for children. For the 4th and 5th weekends admission for adults is $30.00 while children remain at $12.00. Children under 5 years old are free. A season pass for those who wish to attend several weekends are $90.00. There are $3.00 of coupons available for single adult admission in the pink section of the San Francisco chronicle and sometimes they are available at local businesses such as CVS pharmacies.

There is parking at the Fair which the Cow Palace charges $10.00 for. Public transportation options included taking BART to Glen Park Station where a shuttle to the Fair departs every 20 minutes. The Fair is handicapped accessible.

Hartford Properties wishes all of you a healthy and happy holiday season. See you at the Dickens Fair!
